A day on the town.

Nothing beats the vegan Reuben from Pressed Cafe.

It's thoughtful.

They have a homemade vegan kebab going on in their other dishes, and I don't know if they marinate it or season it differently or what, but it doubles as an all-star corned beef substitute. The bread is nicely toasted.

Greatest restaurant menu item ever for me. Previously I'd have said maybe Massaman curry from Le Thai II in Las Vegas.

In general I'm a fan of the vegan item at non-vegan places. All-vegan restaurants serve their purpose, but they don't compete for greatest items. Simply put it's like you'd rather have the Italian guy who figures out how to use vegan cheese than the vegan guy who figures out how to make eggplant parm.

Vegans might disparage me for that statement, but supporting non-vegan places as they offer good vegan options is probably a stronger way to inspire vegan change.

$18 quesadillas that you could make yourself at home won't inspire anything.

Everything at Pressed Cafe is thoughtful. The Schpindlers have nailed it. I think it's a sleeping giant. I think what happens is you think it's a typical smoothie bar, so you don't go, and then one day you find out.

I'd say their 6 or so locations will expand throughout the '20s.

It's not classy to bring your own Arizona iced tea, but I was planning to take it to go. Eat it in the park, chase birds. They gave me a number. One of those numbers on a stick, that in my mind indicated I'd be eating it here.

Regardless, maybe I got mind-fucked, I was sort of considering that it looks comfortable here and I should just eat it when it comes. (If you order to-go you can always audible to here. "To go here", if you will.)

The guy facilitating the orders either could read my mind or indeed I wasn't supposed to get a number on a stick, and he asks "hey did you want to eat it here or to go, bud?"

Whether or not he said 'bud', that was his demeanor. I was a well cared for guest.

"I'll eat it here," I inform him.

"Perfect," he tells me, and tells the kitchen to get it on a plate.

A dog pulled up while I was eating so I took a picture of him.

It was a fine day in Newton and Jamaica Plain.
